Eat these foods regularly to keep yourself warm in winters

Winter season is here and while enjoying the chilly breeze after months of summers, it is important to keep yourself warm. When the temperature falls, our metabolism tends to slow down in order to save energy and keep our body warm. This is why we feel lethargic and lazy during winters. Here are few food items mentioned below, to keep yourself warm during winters.

Winter squash

They are excellent choices in the winter. Winter squash contains vitamin A, vitamin C, and a good source of vitamins B6 and K, potassium and folate.

Citrus fruits

Lemons, limes and oranges are the juiciest fruits in the winter time. Citrus fruits are loaded with vitamin C – one medium orange delivers more than 100 percent of our daily dose.

Legumes

They have a property of warming the body and are a good source of protein. A good intake of healthy plant protein helps in keeping the metabolic rate high, especially since the levels of body activity reduces during winter. Include a cup of peas, beans, soybeans to your diet to combat winter breeze.

Dark Leafy Greens

Kale, chard, collards, spinach, thrive in the chill of winter. These green vegetables are particularly rich in vitamins A, C and K. Collards, mustard greens are also excellent sources of folate.

Nuts

Nuts provide healthy fat-soluble vitamins, such as vitamin E, and also rich in fats. Fats help in warming the body as they have natural insulating properties that can prevent cold. One can choose to chew on almonds and walnuts of warming up with a cup of green tea.

Ginger

Ginger has thermogenic properties that can keep us warm, and believe it may also boost metabolism and promote blood flow within our body.

Oats

Oats can help lower ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol, which collects on the walls of our arteries. But oats are another warming food and are thought to help keep us toasty by mopping up excess dampness inside the body.

Millets

Bajra and ragi are known to keep us energetic during the winter days. They are high energy foods which take longer to digest and generates energy over a period of time.

So grab on to these warm foods and enjoy the winter breeze.
