Know the First Aid Treatment for Heat Stroke

Heat stroke is the most serious form of heat injury where the body fails to regulate its body temperature and the temperature of body rise to 104°F or higher than that.

If a person has a high fever and has been exposed to the sun for a longer time than the body can become dangerously overheated. Some people can get heat stroke after having an overdose of drugs.

Below are the symptoms to know if a person suffers from heat stroke

  • Headache, dizziness and discomfort
  • Restlessness and discomfort
  • Body temperature above 40°C
  • Lack of sweating despite feeling warm
  • Nausea and Vomiting
  • Red, Hot and dry skin
  • Rapid heartbeat, it may be strong or weak
  • Rapid shallow breathing and unconsciousness

There are some remedies which person should do when they see someone with heat stroke to protect them from further danger

Cold Water

Cold water or ice water should be immersed on the person who has a heat stroke as cold water will help in bringing the temperature down as quickly as possible or if it is not possible then you can put a cold blanket on the person so it will give some relief to him/her.

Rehydrate the body

It is important to keep the body cool both from outside and inside. It can be done by drinking lots of water. The body can be hydrated by drinking cold water which will help giving coldness to the body. Drinking water will reduce the risk of dehydration.

Onion Juice

Applying Onion Juice behind the ears and on the chest. This will help to bring down the temperature. Eating raw onion as a salad is also known to prevent heat stroke.

Sandalwood Paste

Mix some sandalwood powder and apply it on the forehead, soles and chest. Its cooling properties will bring down the body temperature. Alternatively, massage some sandalwood oil on the forehead.

Heat stroke which is also known as Sunstroke – is a medical emergency. If you see no change in the patient after applying these tips take the patient to the nearest hospital or clinic immediately.
