This Diwali Ditch these Unhealthy Foods

Diwali is a festival of lights, fireworks, sweets and being with family and friends. We enjoy the festival, eat a lot and end up gaining weight and feeling guilty for that. It is quite normal for a person to gain weight during Diwali. All the sweets that we can not avoid and end up with gaining lots of calories. Eating healthy and a right food have numerous of benefits such as it helps in maintaining our weight, improving our health, keeping us energetic and fresh and preventing us from various lifestyle diseases. During the festive season the portion control plays an important role. One should always keep in mind that what is the quantity he is consuming along with the quality to prevent himself from gaining extra calories.

Here are a few healthy alternatives that are available which we should adopt instead of having the wrong or unhealthy foods-

Fresh Juice: Instead of having high sugary or carbonated drinks we should go the fresh fruit juices which are rich in vitamins and minerals and are very beneficial for your health. Carbonated drinks contain a large amount of sugar in it and increase fat of the body. Fresh juices are the best source of vitamins and minerals which help to boost the energy and also helps in improving the immunity of the body.

Whole wheat instead of refined ones: We should go for the whole wheat instead of refined once because they are rich in fiber in comparison to the refined foods. We should avoid the refined foods in our diet. Whole grains are rich in fiber and help to feel full for a longer duration.

Say no to saturated fat and sugar: We know fat is important in our diet but the good fat, we should take care if the type of the fat which we are having. They are majorly saturated and unsaturated fat. Having saturated fat in the diet increases the risk of heart disease. Saturated fat is found in foods such as hard cheese, cakes, cream, butter, lard, sausages. So we should avoid these in our diet. Regular consumption of high sugar also causes the obesity so we should limit the sugar in our diet. Sugar based drinks and high sugar based food should be also avoided.

Corn: Corn is rich in carbohydrate, protein, vitamin, and minerals which can be used as the salad, sandwiches, and soup. It can be the best snack for the festive season which is tasty and healthy as well.

Multigrain bread: This can be used as the best cereal for kids as well as adults too. Low-calorie items such as sandwiches can be made from this as it is rich in fiber and also beneficial for the health.

Rice noodles or whole wheat pasts: Rice noodles and whole wheat pasta is a better and healthier option instead of the refined noodles which we get outside. Homemade noodles and pasta are also a better option than the refined ones.

Masala papad: Masala papad is one of the best low-calorie and healthy evening snakes. Instead of having snacks with unhealthy calories, we should try masala papad.

Starter or appetizers: We should avoid the unhealthy fried snakes and have homemade nuggets, corns, potato chips, onion rings, french fries, and salads.

Puffed rice: Plain puffed rice can be a better option instead of having unhealthy junk snacks.

Homemade sweets: Homemade sweets and puddings should be consumed instead of the adulterated and sweets available in the market.
