Amla or Indian Gooseberry is also known as the powerhouse of nutrients. It is sour in taste and packed with several positive effects on health. It is one of the excellent sources of Vitamin C, which may help in betterment towards immunity and removes free radicals from the body and also possess other enormous health benefits. To avail its benefits one can take it raw, juiced, powdered, or spread it as pickles or jams. It is very famous among health practitioners because it is not only a potent source of Vitamin C and A but also rich in folic acid, iron, calcium, potassium, carotene and magnesium. 100 gms of gooseberry provide only 44 kcal, around 80% water, protein, minerals, vitamins, carbohydrates, and fibre.

Powerful Booster: Amla contains a combination of potent nutrients like vitamin A and C, polyphenols, flavonoids, alkaloids, hence making it a powerful immunity booster. In Ayurveda, it is used to increase white blood cells, which are directly connected to the defence mechanism of the body.

Diabetes controller: Chromium is responsible for stimulation of cell which secretes insulin, which in turn regulates or maintains blood sugar levels. Amla is a rich source of chromium. Studies reveal that Amla has lipid-lowering properties because chromium also stimulates beta- blockers, which help in reduction of LDL and antihyperglycemic effects.

Digestive Aid: Fiber helps in providing bulk to the stool which reduces the chance of constipation and also provides bulk to loose stool and prevents diarrhoea. Unlike most fruits amla too provides fibre and aids in digestion by stimulating secretion of gastric and digestive juices.

Heart Disease Preventer: Presence of chromium and iron in amla makes it a very potent fruit in reducing the plaque buildup in arteries and prevent atherosclerosis, heart stroke, and heart attack. Iron helps in the production of new red blood cells which strengthen the heart muscle and maintain blood circulation.

Diuretic: Amla contains 80% water so it is slightly diuretic in nature, which helps in eliminating toxins, salt, uric acid, excess water due to increased urination. Diuretics keep kidney healthy, thereby protecting it from urinary infections.

An Eye Helper: Carotene present in amla juice along with honey keep eyes healthy by reducing chances of cataract and decreasing ocular tension. Vitamin A helps to maintain healthy eyes and lowers night blindness and degeneration of muscles.

Relief For Cancer: Researches reveal that amla extracts have cytotoxic effects on ovarian and cervical cancer cells. One Canadian based oncology study reveals that amla extract has shown a tumour repressive effects on various types of cancers because it is loaded with flavonoids, tannins and polyphenols.

Boon For Cramps: This tiny fruit has so many surprises. It is packed with minerals and vitamins which make it potent to provide relief during menstrual cramps. It is necessary to have amla daily or regularly so that the nutrients would present in the system to provide relief during menses.
