Diet Tips for Managing Prediabetes during Menopause by Ms. Meenakshi Mishra (completed The Vedique Diet programme)
I was aware of my menopausal situation. Night sweats, tiredness, hot flashes, mood swings, and weight gain were all happening to me. During my annual checkup I came to know that I am prediabetic. I took good care of myself, but the fact that I developed prediabetes shocked me. This change of life brought symptoms that were hard to handle. Diabetes added its own set of risks on top of menopause.
Despite my doctor’s advice, I was not sure about starting the medicine. I first wanted to try to control this condition naturally by making dietary and lifestyle modifications.
I was looking for someone who could help me through this, and then one of my friends mentioned the Vedique Diet Programme, created by Dr. Shikha Sharma. When I learned about it and understood the systematic approach to managing and reducing the underlying cause of the medical condition, I was positive that this would help me without a doubt.
The Vedique diet team helped me understand the bio-energy of my body and how my hormones are regulated during menopause plus how are they affecting insulin resistance which has caused a sudden rise in my blood sugar levels. This allowed me to appreciate the impact that a healthy diet, and a healthy lifestyle can have on one’s well-being and especially lifestyle disorders such as prediabetes.
My Dietician, Karishma Pandey did a great job and planned my diet, physical activities, and daily workout routine as per my body and health metrics. She planned my diet to counter the sideffects of menopause, to bring a balance in my fluctuating blood sugar levels and to improve my overall health. She also explained that, this menopausal phase is temporary and its side effects will subside. This motivated me to follow my health journey.Â
Here, is the breakdown of foods that I would eat and avoid to control diabetes and manage menopause, according to the Vedqiue Diet Programme:
Foods to include:
- Â Fenugreek seed water,
- Â Whole grains, and their products (flour, oatmeal, cereals)
- Â Brown rice, pulses, Nutri nuggets, soybeans, and its products
- Fruits like prunes, papaya, pineapple, avocado, berries, figs, apples, kiwi, etc
- Vegetables- Brussels Sprouts, beans, cauliflower, broccoli, carrot, cabbage, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, lettuce, green leafy vegetable, etc
- Raisins, Almond, Brazil nuts, Cashew nuts, Walnuts, Hazelnuts, Sunflower seeds, Pumpkin seeds, Hemp seeds, Flax seeds, Chia seeds, and Sesame seeds
- Herbs including green tea, turmeric, garlic, Himalayan berry, fenugreek, aloe vera, etc
Foods to avoid:
As a rule of thumb, cut down on spicy chillies, pepper, and spices like garam masala. Reduce intake of packaged and processed foods. They are high in salt and sugar content and are not a good idea. Any kind of meat as they produce more toxins and free radicals in the body. The consumption of white refined flour, white rice, noodles, dried and frozen pulses, overcooked vegetables, pistachios, and peanuts, as well as high-fat dairy products are not recommended.
This diet was supposed to aid in minimizing the effects of menopause, preserving bone and muscle mass, and managing blood sugar levels. I was advised to limit my diet, lower my stress level, prioritise getting enough sleep, adjust the time I eat meals or snacks, and engage in regular physical activity.
I have changed my old way of living to the new one thanks to the Vedique diet plan, which has helped me attain optimum health, manage the side effects of menopause, and regulate my blood sugar levels.
The Vedique Diet program and its team deserve all the praise in the world. I have been living a new life ever since they gave me this new beginning. My health journey has taken the right path thanks to my stars.Â
